Author Spotlight: Rebecca Jo Jackson

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m Rebecca Jo Jackson. I’m an author of kissing-only romance books, I’m a mama to two little girls, and married to my college sweetheart (who is a fellow bookworm and the swooniest man I’ve ever met). I’m in my early thirties and from a big family– I was born and raised in Texas, but now live in California.

What genre(s) do you write?

Currently I write a small town romance series. I’ve also written a post-partum daily devo for new moms!

Are you traditionally or independently published? Or both?

Indie!

If you could use five words to describe your writing style, what would they be?

Sweet, heartfelt, hopeful, comforting, romantic.

Who inspires you most as a writer?

SO HARD TO ANSWER. Authors I grew up with like Louisa May Alcott, L.M Montgomery, Sarah Dessen. As well as contemporary authors like Emily Henry, Courtney Walsh, Sarah Adams. I’m also really inspired by my readers– I have a few readers that have been with me from the beginning and I think of their responses and what they’ve said they loved from my stories while I’m writing my current project! I’ve started writing my books for them.

What is the hardest part about writing?

Finding time as a mom. I’m homeschooling my kindergartner and have a toddler in tow! As well as juggling other commitments. Either I’m squeezing in the time OR feeling guilty that I’m writing and not making dinner or playing. I’ve found it helpful to remember that it’s good for my kids to grow up seeing me prioritize my passion and make time for what fills my cup. Also for them to see their dad making dinner and for them to get in the habit of entertaining themselves!

What is your favorite passage of Scripture and why?

Psalms 103 is forever my favorite passage. It is such a beautiful picture of who God is and why I love Him and want to love like Him.

What’s next for you?

I’m working on the next book in the Sweet River series (Olivia’s book!) and already brainstorming Gracie’s book…as well as another series I want to begin!

If you could recommend three clean books to others, what would they be?

The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley by Courtney Walsh, Raine Raine Run Away by India Tungate and since Christmas reading season has begun, the Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox!

Besides reading and writing, what are your hobbies?

For whatever reason, when I’m asked a question like this I start to panic! DO I HAVE HOBBIES? What do I like to do?? I’m a leader at a moms group and love it– does that count? I also really enjoy going for walks. I am a big fan of catching the sunset. I collect mugs (is that a hobby?), and I love traveling. My daughters are forcing me to become more crafty!

Is there anything else that you’d like to share?

I’d love to send a little reminder to whoever is reading this: you’re so loved, you’re so valued, you’re so very irreplaceable, and your mere existence and presence is so very on purpose. I hope you wrap yourself up in that fact today.
